Through art, Joaquin Fargas, teaches how to understand nature and proposes to raise awareness about the environment and its care. He currently is the Art Director of the Bioart Laboratory at Maimónides University of Buenos Aires, which he founded in 2008. He is also Professor of Art and Technology in the Multimedia Design Career at the same institution. His artwork was shown in museums, galleries and biennials around the world. During 2014, he developed many projects, site specific works, performances and academic lectures in Argentina, Belgium, Costa Rica, Spain, Taiwan and Luxembourg. This year he participated of the XII Havana Biennial in Cuba.
Through science, Joaquín Fargas popularizes concepts and theories in a playful and poetic way. His work shows possible or utopian proposals regarding life, its preservation and the relationship between human beings and the future. Since 1988 he works for the popularization of Science and Technology. In 1996 he founded the Exploratorio Science Centre, in which he is the Academic Director. Between 2010 and 2014 he was the Executive Director of Red Pop, the Network for the Popularization of Science and Technology for Latin America and the Caribbean from UNESCO.
In his works, Joaquín Fargas uses biological materials and technological tools to break down boundaries and generate new possible dialogues and hybrid ecologies. Since the early 2000’s, he incorporated digital, communication and robotic technologies to his projects. An example of biotechnology can be seen in the artworks made in the Bioart Laboratory since 2008.
