Natalia Fuchs is new media researcher, art historian and international curator. Between 2009 and 2013, she was developing the Media Forum at the Moscow International Film festival, and the contemporary art fair VIENNAFAIR. In 2013 Natalia was appointed as Curator of the Polytechnic Museum (Moscow)—apart from the exhibitions (Earth Lab in collaboration with Ars Electronica, On the Origin of the New at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, etc.), she curated Polytech.Science.Art interdisciplinary program in 2013-2016. Her latest international projects include an exhibition of technological art “Open Codes” at the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Germany (together with Peter Weibel). Today, she is curator, head of the multimedia programs and deputy director of the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow.
Interdisciplinary artist Egor Kraft lives and works in Moscow and Berlin. Having acquired his basic education in Fine Arts in Swedish foundation Art School Gerlesborgsskolan, he continued studies in Arts & Digital Media at the Moscow Rodchenko Art School (BA), The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (MA), followed by further studies at the Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London (MA scholarship) and, lastly, ‘The New Normal’ Postgraduate research programme at Strelka Institute in Moscow. He participated in The 5th and 2nd Moscow International Biennials for Young Art, 1st Ukranian Biennale ‘Arsenale’, Manifesta 10, Parallel Vienna and international exhibitions, screenings and festivals across Australia, Europe, South America, US and the UK. He was nominated the State Innovation Art Prize (New Generation), Kuryokhin Prize (Young Artist of the Year) and Creative Enterprise Award (University of Arts, London). His works are in private and public collections. In 2017 he was included in the New East 100, a list of people, places and projects shaping our world today by London based Calvert Journal.
Content Aware Studies
New materiality is one of the central themes within contemporary artistic process today. Modernist criticism tended to privilege form over matter, considering material as the basis of the specific medium, and technically oriented approaches in the history of art enabled the understanding of the science of artistic materials. Media theory became an effective tool for the analysis of issues on genuine art, aura, exposure and art reproductions.
Now materiality as a medium becomes an agent itself forming critical approach to media culture in the era of rapidly developing digital methods of art production, complexity and automation of the processes. The Content Aware Studies project is related to the study of the role of materiality in art, which expands the concepts of time, space, process and participation of the viewer and the creator in it. For such a reflection, we require not only a new set of methodological tools, but also a search on the substantively lost culture and anthropological materiality by the means of modern technology.
